Wilde & Darling Productions was established in 2019 by Sarah Kwong. It is an independent performing arts company dedicated to sharing stories, theatre and music that is original and Australian. Sarah's emphasis is on producing work that promotes compassion, empathy, and looking at old stories with a new perspective.
The premiere performance was the play Delayed, set in a rural Australian bus station two days before Christmas. It was performed in December 2019 at the Tower Arts Centre. In January 2020, a musical version of Alice in Wonderland was performed as part of a school holiday workshop at St John's Grammar School.
While live performances and workshops were forced into hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in 2020 Sarah began the podcast Coming of Age Stories that dives into meaningful artefacts and experiences from childhood. In 2021, she started Won't Someone Please Think of the Culture? a podcast with her partner Thomas Lambell, which focuses on sharing books, films, music and television they love.
In 2023, Wilde & Darling returned to the stage and made their Adelaide Fringe debut with Goddess Era, an hour long two-hander written by Sarah Kwong, developed with singer-songwriter Shannen Beckett. The show was performed at Goodwood Theatre & Studios, and was shortlisted for the Holden Street Theatres Award.
In the 2024 Adelaide Fringe, Wilde & Darling produced the one-woman show Daughters of Eve, written and performed by Sarah Kwong which was the recipient of a grant from the Adelaide Fringe Fund. It was performed at Goodwood Theatre & Studios and was critically acclaimed.
Sarah Kwong graduated from Flinders University with a Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Drama, in 2009.
She is a former student and teacher of Theatre Bugs, and in Western Australia, she owned and operated her own theatre school from 2010 to 2012. She has taught Drama at several schools across South and Western Australia. At Investigator College, she was the director of the school musical from 2013 to 2018, including several productions that she wrote.
Her directorial efforts include plays such as Michael Gow’s Away, Thornton Wilder’s The Matchmaker, and Out of the Ordinary by Adelaide playwright Alex Vickery-Howe. Her on-stage credits include Winnie Irving in Daisy Pulls It Off, Cruella DeVil in 101 Dalmatians and Aldonza in Man of La Mancha. In 2020 she had a cameo role in the audio drama The Amelia Project.
She is the writer and director of Wilde & Darling's original shows, and returned to the stage in 2023 as an actor in Goddess Era. In 2024 she wrote and performed in her one-woman show Daughters of Eve.
Sarah is currently undertaking a Graduate Certificate in Gender Mainstreaming Policy and Analysis at Flinders University.
Originally from Gympie, Queensland, Thomas Lambell has been a DJ and audio technician for twenty years. He has performed DJ sets in clubs and venues across Brisbane, with a vast artistic and technical knowledge of music production.
He was the audio and lighting technician for Wilde & Darling's Productions of Goddess Era and Daughters of Eve, and performed live DJ sets in Goodwood Theatre's Victoria Lane. He is the co-host of the podcast Won't Someone Please Think of the Culture.
